Five young men tragically drowned in a well in Sarbaha village, Charhi, Hazaribagh, on January 1st after a domestic dispute escalated into a fatal incident. The victims, all residents of the same village, were identified as Sundar Karmali (27), son of Ram Prasad Karmali; Vinay Kumar, son of Gopal Karmali; Pankaj Karmali, son of Gopal Karmali; Suraj Bhuiyan (24), son of Mahabir Bhuiyan; and Rahul Karmali (26), son of Ravi Karmali.
Around 12 PM on January 1st, Sundar Karmali had a dispute with his wife, Rupa Devi. During the argument, Sundar expressed intentions to harm himself by jumping into a well with his motorcycle. Despite Rupa Devi’s attempts to stop him, Sundar proceeded with his threat and drove his motorcycle into a well located near their house.
Hearing Rupa Devi’s cries for help, several villagers, including Vinay Kumar, Pankaj Karmali, Suraj Bhuiyan, and Rahul Karmali, rushed to the scene. In a desperate attempt to save Sundar, the four men jumped into the well. However, they were unable to rescue him or escape the water themselves. All five individuals drowned in the well.
After about an hour of frantic attempts to rescue the victims, villagers were able to retrieve the bodies with help from the community. Local police from Charhi arrived shortly afterward. The bodies were sent to Hazaribagh hospital for post-mortem examinations. Authorities are investigating the sequence of events leading to the drowning. The well, where the men drowned, has been identified as the central location of the incident.
The incident has shocked the village, as these five young men were well-known members of the community. The police are conducting an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the drowning, focusing on the chain of events that led to the tragic loss of life. The bodies were later handed over to the families for final rites following the completion of post-mortem procedures.
